Quilt #15: Christmas Tree Skirt

To be totally honest, I almost didn’t put up a Christmas tree this year… and when I finally did, I couldn’t find our tree skirt.ChristmasTreeSkirt2

I did, however, find this video from the Missouri Star Quilt Company showing how to quilt your own tree skirt – and by that time, ordering a couple of charm packs was faster and less stressful than searching for the missing skirt. ChristmasTreeSkirt3So, I logged in to the Fat Quarter Shop, picked out a couple of great Christmas themed charm packs, some coordinating border fabric, and a great solid for the backing and waited for it to show up at my door. A few days (and a couple of Christmas gift quilt projects later) I was able to get to work making a beautiful new tree skirt.

ChristmasTreeSkirt4The whole process was super fast – maybe 3-4 hours total? I completed the entire skirt in one evening.

ChristmasTreeSkirt6I love the octagon pattern – it looks like a circle under the tree, but is way easier to sew. I’m also digging the bias tape tie strings – they make an easy way to secure the skirt without detracting from the quilt.

ChristmasTreeSkirt7I quilted the entire thing with a diagonal diamond pattern that turned out much better than I expected – I even love the way the quilting looks on the back – so, technically, the skirt could be reversible if I wanted to go for a much more subtle and modern look.

ChristmasTreeSkirt5Even though this isn’t a quilt you would cuddle up with, I’m still counting it in my #26Quilts project. It’s as big as some of my completed quilts, and I get to make the rules, so there you go. 🙂

That means this makes 10 quilts blogged and 16 to go. Happy Quilting!
